Rays (a poem)

This is a poem I wrote in high school for a person who helped me through some difficult times. My Little Blue Pill is a prior blog post that explains my struggles, which started in high school.

RAYS

The sun’s rays
Shone through my
Dusty window
Dimming them so that
The sun’s rays
Of hope
Were hopeless

I looked up
My tears dripped down
And clutching death
In my hands
I squeezed
But not hard enough
Death wasn’t ready
For me

The sun’s rays
Shone once again
This time bright enough
To brush
The dust away and
Replace it with hope

You brought me
Light
When it was
Dark
You brought me
Sun
When there was
Rain

You brought out my
Happiness
And buried my
Sadness
You picked up the
Pieces
And helped me put them back
Together

You took my
Hand
When I needed someone to
Hold it
You gave me a
Push
When I needed a
Shove

Down the path we
Walked
Faster and faster
Until we were
Running

The wind whispered
“He loves you”
And in the wind’s breeze
I felt your touch cool me
From life’s heated struggle

But a time came
When we began to slow
Back to a walk
Eventually walking so slow
We hardly moved
At all
Then we stopped
Completely

You let go of my hand
Looked to the sun’s rays
Explained in a foreign language
I couldn’t understand
And then you
Left

I was stranded
Life was the sea
You were the boat
The moment, a small island

I stood, wrecked
Waiting…
Still waiting…
For you to come
Back and once more
Blow away the dust
With the sun’s rays
