It’s Easier to Say NO but I Choose YES

I haven’t linked up to Five Minute Friday in a few weeks. I haven’t been blogging much in the last few weeks, either. I honestly wasn’t sure if I was going to write about today’s topic: YES.

But then something inside me, someone inside me (and no, I don’t have multiple personalities) said YES, you will take five minutes to address this topic today.

yes1-600x600

Here it is:

My writing over the last months has been slow coming, like pulling teeth. Actually, it hasn’t been writing so much as editing, which I think of as pulling teeth.

And there are times, like just now, after eating my lunch, I want to give up. I want to say, “NO! I can’t do this!” And then throw my laptop out the window (which I can’t do because my husband would kill me) or burn all the papers with my scribbles and my journal entries (which I won’t do because we still average 90-degree days).

But then a voice inside says, “YES!” You’ve written the book, which is an amazing thing in itself, and now you have to polish it – it’s very tarnished – and then you have to publish it.

YES, it has been and will continue to be a long road.
YES, it is frustrating.
YES, it makes you question yourself and your writing ability.
YES, you have to relive the damn thing over and over each time you edit.
YES, it can really suck.

AND…

YES, it is a wonderful story, one that needs to be shared.
YES, your motives for publishing are good.
YES, you can educate others about the system and its desperate need for foster and adoptive parents.
YES, you can provide a supportive book for those going through what you went through. (Lord knows, I couldn’t find one!)
YES, you can shed light on the people underneath the addictions.
YES, you can make a difference!

And YES, all it takes is to just keep going.

And YES, all the challenges and stress you’re feeling right now will be worth it.

YES, I promise, says God.

YES, I trust you, I say.

  1. Great post! I, too, just finished the draft/manuscript of my first book and then 4 months of editing. Editing is a beast – but it is worth it to tell your story. Especially in this realm of adoption, foster care, addiction, etc. I liked your reminders of “yes.” Keep on going. You can do it!
