The topic for today’s Five Minute Friday is dreaming. Boy, do I have a lot to say about that – I hope I can get it all in five minutes!
READY, SET… GO!
Over six years ago I saw a license plate that said 11 YR DRM. At that time, I was living in a nightmare and envied this vanity plate attached to a Mercedes convertible. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t care about the designer car or the personalized plates; my envy stemmed from this person having fulfilled a dream while I was going through the motions of life.
My dream has always been to be an author.
There was no way I could do that because I was the primary breadwinner and my husband a stay-at-home dad. It was just the practical way to do it – I could make more money and get us great benefits.
I had no problem with hubby being raising the kids. In fact, I was happy my husband wanted this job.
No, what got me down was the fact that I HATED MY JOB. I never saw myself sitting in an office with plugs in my ears, typing physician’s notes eight hours a day, which were dictated with as much clarity as the doctors’ handwriting.
But then things changed. Hubby got a job with benefits and paid well enough that I could quit my job. Now I was a stay-at-home mom and could work on my dream of writing a book.
I have written a memoir about adopting my daughters through foster care. Not only is it something they can have to understand their adoption story, it is something the world needs to hear.
The world needs to hear how good God is and how he wants our dreams to come true; that he loves everyone and has a divine plan for each of us.
The story shows how he worked in my heart to withhold judgement for an addict who messed up her life, as well as her daughters,’ and how he worked in my husband’s heart to take on a situation we never dreamed of, but that was so obviously meant to be.
My hope is that this story will provide education, understanding and support to foster care and foster-adopt children.
My dream has come true, thanks to God’s Love and God giving me a Loving and Supportive husband.
